Alma Karlin statue

Scroll

Alma M. Karlin, writer, globetrotter, collector, theosophist, polyglot, was born in 1889.

After World War I, she travelled a good part of the world on her own, which certainly makes her one of the greatest female travellers and adventurers of all times. During her travels, she collected a wealth of ethnological material, and she recounted her experiences in numerous books. Following her return, she conveyed her knowledge of foreign languages to the residents of Celje. She died in 1950 in a small house in Pečovnik. A permanent exhibition in the Celje Regional Museum portrays her life and her voyage around the world. This life-size statue was erected in 2009.
