When history no longer stands behind glass, but steps among the visitors.
On June 13 and 14, Celje Castle will offer a slightly different glimpse into the past. Not as a conventional tour. Not as a sequence of facts and dates. Instead, as an encounter with the castle world that briefly comes to life in the very places where history once truly happened.
At various points throughout the castle, visitors will be welcomed by short stories from life in the 14th and 15th centuries. As they move between the castle stations, they will gradually discover scenes from the time of the Counts of Celje, one of the most influential noble families in Slovenian history.
Each station will serve as a small window into the Middle Ages, intertwining voices, customs, everyday moments, castle order, social relationships, and small scenes of life that bring history closer in a more human and immediate way.
Interpreters and guides will use short performances to introduce visitors to the castle world — not merely a place of stone walls, defensive towers, and powerful noble families, but also a place of decisions, rules, stories, ambitions, and everyday life.
The event is designed as a free-flowing experience. Visitors will be able to explore the stations at their own pace, stop at selected scenes, and discover the castle through live interpretation. Each interpretation lasts up to 15 minutes, making the event suitable for families with children, tourists, and anyone wishing to experience Celje Castle in a different way.
Interpretations will be available in both Slovenian and English.
