IMPORTANT NOTICE: ROAD RECONSTRUCTION TO THE CASTLE (MAY 2026)
We would like to inform you that the reconstruction of the road leading to the castle has begun. As part of the works, the reconstruction of Popovičeva Street is also underway and the street is currently closed to traffic.
Access to Celje Castle remains possible despite the works. Traffic is operating normally, although occasional partial road closures with appropriate traffic regulation (traffic lights) may occur.
Access to Celje Castle:
- by car (blue route marked on the map below)
Access to Celje Castle is currently possible via the renovated bridge over the Voglajna River: Mariborska Street → Teharska Road → Castle Road
- by public transport (route follows the blue marking on the map below)
Visitors are informed that from 25 May 2026 until the expected end of the year, Celebus Line 5 has been suspended. It is replaced by Line 5A.

Recommended route for coaches (coming from the direction of Laško or the Celje–center exit): Mariborska Street → Kidričeva Street → Teharska Road → Castle Road

How to get to Celje Castle
By bike:
Celje Castle is also accessible for cyclists who want an active climb and a view. The route requires some endurance, but is rewarded with a beautiful panorama and an unforgettable experience.
On arrival, bike racks are available in the car park, where you can leave your bike safely.

On foot along the Castle Trails:
The Castle Trails lead to Celje Castle and are 2 km long. The trails are signposted and suitable for hikers of all ages and fitness levels.
Starting point: car park at the confluence of the Voglajna and Savinja rivers
Length of the trail:
- Geological trail (900 m)
- Pelican trail (750 m)
- Trail under the rocks (200 m)
Information about the trail:
- Elevation difference: 140 m
- Duration of the trail: approx. 60 minutes (circular trail)
The trails are designed to be suitable for families with children, beginner hikers and all those who want to have a relaxing walk in nature. The new Geological Trail is unique as it takes visitors through geological time – the special features of the area are revealed on wooden pillars and carved into stone steps.
Fun for the little ones and rest for all
Hikers will surely remember the games along the trail: a slide, a wooden nest, climbing pyramids, a climbing platform and much more. There are also benches with imaginative designs for resting or admiring nature.
Observation deck
A special experience awaits you on the glass observation deck, which “floats” above the castle’s skyline. It offers unique views of Celje and the surrounding area, which will surely delight all hikers.
By car and parking information:
For visitors to Celje Castle, free parking is available in the immediate vicinity of the castle. You can park on asphalt or gravel, all days during the castle’s opening hours.
Arriving by public transport:
We offer quick and easy access for our group visitors – buses can stop for a short stop (up to 10 minutes) at the Celjski grad car park to allow passengers to get on and off the bus safely. You can also reach Celje Castle comfortably by public transport! The city bus Celebus (line 5A, with the boarding point Celje Railway Station) will take you right to the foot of the castle.The bus runs every day except Sunday and Holidays and the timetable is available here: https://www.nomago.si/en.

Notice for buses – recommended route due to construction work
Due to extensive construction work in the surroundings of Celje Castle (more information below), we recommend that buses use an adapted, less busy route to reach the castle.

Due to extensive construction works in the area around Celje Castle (more information below), we recommend that buses access the castle via an adjusted, less congested route.
Recommended route for buses (from the direction of Laško or the Celje–center exit):
Mariborska Street → Kidričeva Street → Teharska Road → Road to the Castle*
This route enables easier and safer access to the castle during the construction works. Thank you for your understanding and have a safe journey.
*In connection with the start of Phase I of the project “Road to the Castle and Safe School Route Skalna klet”, we inform you that traffic on the Road to the Castle is regulated with a partial closure (temporary traffic lights), but flows without disruption.

Polule area – Zagrad
A major infrastructure project is being carried out in the Polule area – the construction of a new bridge, which will significantly improve flood and traffic safety and connectivity in the area. The construction works will be carried out in several phases, which will affect the traffic regime and require adjustments for both drivers and pedestrians.
