Celje, City of the Counts, where three great streams of history blend – rich antiquity, the feisty Middle Ages and the colourful present.
What does today’s Celje, still pulsing amidst the Slovenian and European routes while maintaining its stubborn, authentic character, stand for? Let’s dip into the century of Celje’s lifestyle.
Programme highlights:
- Guided tour through the old town
- Visit to the Living in Celje exhibition at the Museum of Recent History
- Guided tour through the Pelikan Photo Atelier and Gallery
A pot of freshly roasted coffee brewed in the enameled coffee pot made by Celje’s EMO kitchenware producer will set us up for an exciting Celje lifestyle experience. So, what are we like? We love to have coffee and socialise at concerts, cultivate healthy criticality and doubt – we love this place. Marked by an enviable medieval character given by the bold and stubborn Counts of Celje, the streets of Celje are a picture book of historical periods from antiquity to the present. How much of their character can still be found in contemporary citizens of Celje? After experiencing the Celje time machine and the main sights, a walk through the city centre is followed by a visit to the exhibition named Living in Celje at the Museum of Recent History. Here, we are taken to the life of three generations of the 20th century Celje citizens. To finish, the door to the only preserved glass photo studio in Slovenia, unlike any in Europe, dating back to the end of the 19th century, is unlocked for us. It is a monument to the life and work of the most renowned Celje-based photographer Josip Pelikan. Optionally, you can make a picture of yourself by following the same nostalgic method as the 20th century’s master of glass photography in this studio.
Included in this programme:
