The Quarter House (Kvartirna Hiša) in the heart of the historical town centre of Celje is a charming Renaissance building where Celje musketeers and soldiers once lived – not to mention Sofia Hess, the femme fatale of Celje.
This lady was Alfred Nobel’s fiancée for no less than 22 years. He visited Sofia and her family regularly. Now, his bust adorns the facade of her house. Today it is worth to take a peek into the gallery where you can visit the current painting, sculpture or photography exhibition. Concerts, literary evenings or lectures often take place at the Quarter House, where the Celje Tourist Association’s headquarters are located. Moreover, select groups are invited to a tea party with Sofia Hess herself to talk of memories of her great love over homemade delicacies.
