Every last weekend in August, you can come and take a stab at playing a count at the Medieval Weekend where you are invited by the Land of Celje. The City of the Counts turns into the centre of ancient market life with all the hustle and bustle you can imagine – from castle gentry to knights, from craftsmen to troubadours and entertainers.
Even those devilish old wenches keep running around and gossiping. The sound of horses running and the clanking of swords spreads across the castle courtyard; as once upon a time, they were heard almost all the way to the walled old town centre. This programme includes groups of knights and medieval cultural and historical societies from all over the country. Children having fun with ancient games and animation, a castle printer with an old press printing souvenirs on papyrus. It smells of medieval dishes and ancient recipes at the castle inn. In the evening, it’s time for some mystical stories and a magnificent fire show. We recommend you plan your holiday in Celje during the Medieval Counts’ Weekend.
Visit to the Land of Celje – Medieval Counts’ Weekend: €6 per person, €1 for tastings (food or drinks) included in the price; children under 5: free of charge; children between 6 and 15: €2 (no tasting).
