Join us for exploring the green mysteries of Celje. The City of the Counts boasts the Slovenia Green bronze award demonstrating its tourism focus on the local community and on environmental sustainability. Just like the Counts of Celje once upon a time, you just need a few steps to leave the city and let yourself be embraced by nature and forests. Visit the country’s largest tree house and relax on the shore of Lake Šmartinsko jezero.
- Short guided tour through the old town
- Experience the country’s largest tree house
- Relax on the shore of the Lake Šmartinsko jezero
Let’s embark on a green active adventure in Celje, famous for its sports tradition and the success of athletes in several disciplines. Home and abroad, some of them are still named Counts. You are awaited by the guide in the old town, then led among the Celje old town’s picturesque streets and squares still surrounded by medieval walls. Our green (sustainable) commitment and pride in protecting the cultural heritage are also evidenced by the European Commission Europa Nostra Award for the presentation of heritage in the modern Archaeology Pavilion which hosts the main Celje Tourist Information Centre. This is followed by a walk along the Savinja River embankment and a quick detour over the bridge to the City Forest where the country’s largest tree house is located! In the recent years, this innovative wooden structure has been spread between the canopies to become a place of socialising, creative workshops, concerts and exhibitions. After listening to the sounds of the forest, we head to the next green point of Celje – Lake Šmartinsko jezero, the most popular and visited place for leisure near Celje. Relax on the shore of the lake with the sounds of water and birds singing. At the request of the group, your water adventure can be spruced up by renting some water sports equipment such as a stand-up paddle board, ZORB ball (rolling ball filled with air) or even a walk on water for an unforgettable nature day in Celje.
